.

Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used.

Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be the household word it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was;
there is absolutely unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of your mind
because I am out of your sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near just around the corner...
All is well. Nothing is past, nothing is lost.

One brief moment and all will be as it was before,
only better, infinitely happier
and forever we will be one together.

Henry Scott Holland (1847-1918)

you'll need to register to attend this one.

UPDATE:

There's been a change of speakers. al-Mustaqeem and Goh Keat Peng regretfully cannot attend the KL Roadshow. Instead, lawyer Jahaberdeen Mohd Yunoos and Pastor Sivin Kit will take their slots in the key message Human Beings, Born Free and Equal.

Rhyme/Reason

a fam tweeted that his literature lecturer refused him from presenting a poem by Tupac Shakur, as poetry study piece, (over insufficient poetic merit? unrecognized and unfamiliarity of the writer? or pre-conceived perception of the writer? beats me which angle of ignorance the lit-guru came from exactly).
but he's studying in a renown local university. i'll reserve further comments. but i digress. eg - this below is as much a poem as any by Emily Dickinson(extreme comparison i know)/ encapsulates as much honesty, metaphor, meaning and value as say...a piece by Edgar Poe or even Oscar Wilde. no? to me at least.

DROP THE WORLD

I got ice in my veins,
blood in my eyes,

Hate in my heart, love in my mind.
I've seen nights full of pain,
days of the same,

You keep the sunshine, save me the rain.

I search but never find,
hurt but never cry,

I work and forever try, but I’m cursed, so never mind.
And it’s worse, but better times seem further and beyond..

The top gets higher the more that I climb,
The spot gets smaller, and I get bigger,
Tryna get into where I fit in, no room for a n*gga
But soon for a n*gga it be on,
‘Cause all the bullshit, it made me strong.

And I could die now, Rebirth,
Hop up in my spaceship and leave Earth...I’m gone

I know what they don’t wanna tell you,
Just hope you’re heaven-sent, and you’re hell-proof
I walk up in the world and cut the lights off,
And confidence is the stain they can’t wipe off,
my word is my pride
But wisdom is bleak, and that’s a word from the wise,
Served to survive, murdered and bribed,
And when it got too heavy I put my burdens aside.

And I could die now, Rebirth,
Hop up in my spaceship and leave Earth...I’m gone

Resurrection

it's strange. i've yet to meet anyone in Malaysia that's talking or formed an opinion on Haiti. real life that is. too far from home to bother? too caught up by what to call god, over god's wrath perhaps.

Of Cognitive Reasoning and Error of Perception

Another one from TED. i like this one.

Behavioral economist Dan Ariely, the author of Predictably Irrational, uses classic visual illusions and his own counterintuitive (and sometimes shocking) research findings to show how we're not as rational as we think when we make decisions. funny guy.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

The free bird leaps
on the back of the win
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and is tune is heard
on the distant hillfor the caged bird
sings of freedom

The free bird thinks of another breeze
an the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

Deeper In

the god-name copyright issue is getting ridiculously draggy. a non-issue overpoliticized for theater with extras armed with molotov mocktails (lawak). third side of the coin this; here's a re-post of an article on Malaysia-Today.net; re-posting an insight by Marina Mahathir; of an article by Dr.Muqtedar Khan.

Confident people do not get confused

lay off the batu and get a real job remps.

Of Pride, Prejudice...and Romanticized Ideals

what's below is a promo video for the Charter For Compassion, founded by Karen Armstrong.
cool name for an org. no? (they've also got something called the Council of Conscience, pretty rad names these bunch)

the Charter is a noble and ideals-based movement that calls for a replenished form of thinking/living amongst men.(very United Colors of Benetton). i'll leave you to watch. for me, i have my pinch of doubt/ i do feel it's a little bit of a far cry for an ideal world, for the human race, as of now. but we all need dreams and tomorrows and their vision is of the positive (and seemingly achievable at times).

but most importantly, do double click and watch the vid on youtube. then read the discussion on the comment box below. open your mind, plant some seeds.

E.G -
"
I don't think there's any intrinsic problem with prejudice. I think the real problem, or challenge, lies where there's blindness, or denial, of our tendency to prejudice. If we avoid seeing that we are prejudiced, we are controlled by it. If we accept the existence of prejudice, or any kind of "bad human treat", as an inevitable fact of what is right now, we don't have to be slaves for it - we can observe and learn. Maybe not outgrow, but learn to function with it."

E.G II -
"Many congregations don't want to be compassionate, they want to be right."

Colonial Cousins

"as long as it doesn’t spill over into something serious, they can still express their views," najib said.
Hishammuddin had also stated yesterday that the government did not prohibit the people from expressing their views on the Allah issue but action will be taken if the protests affected security.

okley dokley cousins. here's a view expressed...peacefully by

Mr.Amer Hamzah Arshad

Steve Jobs: Life

was never a fan of having someone/something/doctrines telling me/anyone how to live life correct. a few authors and figures aside, i think most that do preach about living are just so forcefully righteous(me right! you wrong!...me tarzan! you jane! heh). no offense to any one/institution/religious beliefs that is. but i think we all find our own sense of faith and meaning along the journey.

having said that, the coolest(and arguably richest) geek in the world (stephen hawking doesnt count. cool factor a little slack la), talks about his journey. pretty cool i thought. =) casual wisdom.

This Is Not Hiphop (and why the jonas boys ought to be shot)

to each his own, but i really do think the yodeling jonas triplets make the best disposable bubblegum poop for 12 year olds and/or younger (closest mtv rivals, alvin and the chipmunks). anyway. was hungry for some alternative rock, found these not so new/not so old stuff. surprised none of it reached our airwaves. but then again, that's expected. bubblegum poop.

Cage The Elephant. take some time to check their other stuff, pretty fly. Fall Out Boy x A rapping Mick Jagger-like.

Phoenix - childhood band yang berjaya from versailles, france. from the alb '"Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix"

Them Crooked Vultures - John Paul Jones, Josh Homme, Dave Grohl. that hype aside, music is true blue rock & roll. flash em' devil horns, scare your neighbour ;)

Seven Collar T-Shirt. if you've explored 'Freeway, Dreaming & Broke' & 'Drones', you'd really appreciate how these boys evolved. brilliant. and finally, a music video. (its a shame Lyme and D.D.A didnt make it. would've been grand).
