Of Pride, Prejudice...and Romanticized Ideals

what's below is a promo video for the Charter For Compassion, founded by Karen Armstrong.
cool name for an org. no? (they've also got something called the Council of Conscience, pretty rad names these bunch)

the Charter is a noble and ideals-based movement that calls for a replenished form of thinking/living amongst men.(very United Colors of Benetton). i'll leave you to watch. for me, i have my pinch of doubt/ i do feel it's a little bit of a far cry for an ideal world, for the human race, as of now. but we all need dreams and tomorrows and their vision is of the positive (and seemingly achievable at times).

but most importantly, do double click and watch the vid on youtube. then read the discussion on the comment box below. open your mind, plant some seeds.

I don't think there's any intrinsic problem with prejudice. I think the real problem, or challenge, lies where there's blindness, or denial, of our tendency to prejudice. If we avoid seeing that we are prejudiced, we are controlled by it. If we accept the existence of prejudice, or any kind of "bad human treat", as an inevitable fact of what is right now, we don't have to be slaves for it - we can observe and learn. Maybe not outgrow, but learn to function with it."

"Many congregations don't want to be compassionate, they want to be right."

  1. you know ive never felt racial discrimination until i was in europe this year. it was really upsetting. and then i saw this show on tv about jane elliott and her blue eyed/brown eyed exercise and it was emotional and a real eye opener for me. its saddening to know that the ignorant stay ignorant because they don't think they are being racist, they dont know how it feels like to be picked on for something that you cannot change about yourself and they try to find other excuses on how they are victims too in this world. and these people nurture our future - in the show this racist person is a schoolteacher. scary aint it?
